Age groups: Under 18 yrs (children), 18–44 yrs (young adults), 45–64 yrs (middle-aged adults), 65+ yrs (seniors). ACS 5-Year estimates are multi-year averages reflecting demographic trends between decennial censuses. Rural counties (Hancock, Unicoi, Johnson) have higher senior populations; counties with urban centers or universities (Washington, Sullivan) have higher proportions of young adults.
