A Look Inside FTDD’s Latest Board Meeting: Investment, Leadership, and Impact

Leaders from across Northeast Tennessee gathered yesterday at the historic General Morgan Inn in Greeneville for FTDD’s Semi-Annual Board of Directors Meeting, a time to reflect on accomplishments, plan for the future, and recognize those making a lasting impact across the region.

The meeting began with a financial update from Jayne Morrell, Director of Finance, who presented the FY2027 Budget. Following discussion, the Board unanimously approved the budget, positioning FTDD for another year of service and investment throughout the region.

Christina Wichlin, Director of Community Development and Business Financing, shared an update on her department’s ongoing work, noting that the team is currently managing 102 grants with projects totaling nearly $166 million. These investments continue to support infrastructure, economic development, and community improvement efforts throughout Northeast Tennessee.

Bill Forrester, Director of Economic Development, Planning & Housing Initiatives, provided a departmental update and took a moment to reflect on his 27-year career with FTDD. Looking back on nearly three decades of service, Forrester emphasized that resilience and perseverance have always been defining characteristics of both the organization and the communities it serves.

The Board also received a special presentation from Angie Gwaltney, Director of the Area Agency on Aging & Disability, who shared a video highlighting the FTAAAD Annual Conference on Aging held in April 2026. Executive Director Mike Harrison concluded the meeting by presenting the FY2027 FTDD Work Plan, which was approved by the Board. He then took time to recognize Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable for his years of dedicated service to the region. Venable was thanked for his leadership on the FTDD Board of Directors, including his tenure as Board Chair. His commitment, guidance, and unwavering support have helped shape countless initiatives benefiting Sullivan County and communities throughout Northeast Tennessee.

As the meeting came to a close, one theme remained clear: strong leadership, regional collaboration, and a shared commitment to service continue to drive FTDD’s mission forward.
